A Reunited States begins with reunited families

Reunited State
Unity starts with families

It has begun. There is hope of a better decade. One by one, the fires of hate radiating from a Trump-ravaged USA are being put out. Love is coming, and this time it will not be stopped. Loonies gonna loon, gun nuts gonna gun, but something has changed; America is remembering who she is. The reminder is enscribed not in political documents but on a plaque under the Statue of Liberty.

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, the tempest-tost to me.

I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

Joe Biden has signed executive orders allowing seperated migrant families to be reunited. And that’s where unity comes from: Families. That’s where this all has to start. After all, how can a nation of millions come together while families inside her borders are torn asunder?

Biden is creating a task force whose mission in life is to reunite 700 lost children with their families. Trump, in his rampage against humanity, tore over 5,000 children from parents and guardians along the border in just two short years.

While the right will see Biden’s actions as retrogressive, there are millions more both in the USA and worldwide, who see instead a progressive leap forward in human decency and compassion. One can only hope others follow Biden’s example. (Priti Patel are you listening?)

Dare we hope that love is growing, and that hate is finally receding?

Biden also has ordered a wider review of Trump’s immigration policies, and his cuts to foreign aid. America might just be getting back on track, and able to set a proper example to others.

This can happen. I know it can happen.

This can happen. I know it can happen. But the new president has his work cut out. Rolling back the Trump damage could easily engulf his term in office if he lets it. It is wise to set up seperate task forces and new departments to tackle the challenges ahead, and stop Trump-reversal dominating the entire narrative; more importantly Trump’s name does not need to keep staining the Whitehouse furniture. Let this be about moving forward, about building anew, about love for the new, not hate for the old. Don’t let Trump spoil it. Not now.

Activist groups will be hungry for change, ravenous in fact, and the challenge for Biden will be to assure them, to validate them, as their causes cry out for attention. It does however seem difficult to argue with his prioritising of reunifying the famlies torn apart by the Orange Monster.

It has been a terribe drought. Now let it rain.

As a miserable UK resident it still overwhelms me that I am able to say and think positive things about our friends the US again. It has been a terribe drought. Now let it rain. Let the flowers grow. We are rooting for you, America. You can do it, just remember who you are. And if you can do it, so can we.

America, we, the rest of the world, are looking to you for hope now.

To those who are angered by Biden’s actions, I urge you to look to the foot of your famous statue and remember who your nation truly is.

      1. Try, for four years, being viciously lied about and simply because you actually pay attention to that “yearning to breathe free” part over infinite government overreach and unbridled power in DC. Then, after all that, these knuckleheads who forget on a daily basis that we’re the boss, not them, say, “Hey, after we talk about sending you to a re-education camp (see AOC) to deprogram you, let’s reunite, America!” 😁. How well do you think that’ll work? How’d that work in ‘17 when Trump took office in the first place? That’d be three years of the Russia misinformation project… not a word of it based in reality.

      2. Right, sorry, you’re gonna have to break that down for me as I’m in the UK and all I see is Trump seperating kids from their families, and Biden reuniting them. With my post I was kind of saying, how can you hope to renuite a country, if you can’t even reunite kids with parents first? I try to be optimistic for the decade ahead, and think that baby steps can build to something far better.

      3. And that’s not your fault, it’s your media misreporting things. All those kids in cages happened under then President Obama. Trump stopped (or slowed) the illegal immigration (what’s the penalty if I illegally overstay my visa in the UK? Hint: it isn’t amnesty and welfare). Then, Joe Biden is now choosing to ignore the US’s laws on immigration whereby he would be legally reunite kids with their parents in Mexico.

      4. No worries, Owen. Sorry if I was a little gruff at first. I get fired up about this stuff every now and again. I was a political science major in college for a minute.
